Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer. Your polished new look should be long-lasting, depending on the severity of your skin damage and the number of treatments that you receive. Many people have two microdermabrasion treatments per month at first and then one per month as part of a maintenance plan.
This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage and stretch marks.
Microdermabrasion helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that’s abundant when you’re a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.
The multi-purpose treatment targets everything from acne scars to hair loss.
Microneedling is in the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purpose of triggering the regenerative capabilities of your own body. This has become a popular treatment that is both effective and inexpensive uses a device called a dermaroller that is made up of micro-fine needles that range in diameter of .0.5 and 2.5 millimeters. While this can sound daunting, it is a very simple and easy process. You are given a local numbing agent near the treatment area and the needles only pierce skin-deep.
No Scalpel & No Sutures
Microneedling also promises improvement over time. According to a 2008 study, skin treated with four microneedling sessions spaced one month apart produced up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin six months after completing treatment. An additional recent study 100 test subjects were divided into two groups; one set was treated with minoxidil lotion and the other received minoxidil lotion plus microneedling. After 12 weeks, 82 percent of the microneedling group reported 50 percent improvement versus 4.5 percent of the minoxidil lotion-only group.
